BellsBatch10000frontBell's Brewing out of Michigan has issued a special release beer for each 1000 batches, (i.e. Batch 1000, Batch 2000, etc). Well they recently released the final beer in this series, Batch 10,000 and their inspiration for this brew was "cleaning out the Brewers Closet". It has over 190 ingredients.

From the Bell's Website:

While we are excited to free up some brewing space for other creative projects, the end of the Batch series marks a major milestone for us, and is a little bittersweet being the end of an era. Batch 10,000 reflects our homebrewing roots and was inspired by the the last homebrew of the season. Our owner Larry Bell remembers going through his brewing supplies and making the last homebrew out of whatever malts and hops were left from his brewing months. With this being the motivation behind our last commemorative batch series beer, we combed through the catalogs of many malt and hop suppliers to source 100 different malts, grains, and other fermentables. This is balanced by the addition of 60 different hop varietals between the kettle and dry hopping. The resulting beer presents a deep, chocolate brown hue and offers roasted and caramel notes from the malts mixed with an assertive hop character. Feel free to drink it fresh, or vintage age it as you please.

Also meant to say, the bottle says it will be the last of the Batch X000 series.

I can best describe it as a really strong black and tan. Somewhere between a stout and a barleywine, but with tons of hops covering a lot of that.If someone is in the Morgantown area and talks really nice I have 3 bottles left.

I'll be in Detroit on the 18th, so I'm hopeful I'll find my own.  Thanks for the offer though!

Will be heading to Indy around the 9th or so for my drug screen.  Anyone want me to pick up a bottle for them?

Truth be told, looking at the grain and hop bill I don't see how this could be made into a good beer!  I know Bell's is great and love them, but that just makes my head spin and don't see how that could meld into a good beer.  I would be interested to hear form folks who try it.

It makes sense to see them discontinue Batch X000 beers simply because their production is at such a rate that they can do 1000 batches within the span of less than a year (if I recall correctly, we got Batch 9000 earlier this year)....hardly a noteworthy milestone.  Still, would hope that they'd maybe do a Batch 15,000, 20,000, etc!

I'm interested to see how this works out.  The last 10 malt, 10 hop beer I had tasted somewhat muddled, though, so I can't say I'm optimistic that this self-indulgence will turn out much better.

It should be available in PA or OH. I know Bell's products are generally available there.

That's a really cool concept. Too bad it's not available in state! I guess I'll have to do a little searching for this one.
