From The Washington Post

dave alexander_opt.jpgPerhaps it's only appropriate that the Brickskeller, the once storied beer institution off Dupont Circle, will assume an air of royalty in its next life. The new owners of the historic saloon have renamed the place Bier Baron, which officially [opened for business December 29]

Dave and Diane Alexander closed The Brick following service on Dec. 18, leaving behind a wealth of memories. They also left little time for Megan Merrifield and her husband to give the old tavern a good scrub and a fresh identity before reopening prior to New Year's Eve.

"We've scrubbed and scoured and dusted," Merrifield says. "We've got brand new linens in. The bathrooms are much nicer and in more sanitary working order."

I've been to the Brickskeller and I've been to the Bier Barron. The Bier Barron is no Brickskeller. Then again, the Brickskeller wasn't as awesome as we would like to think. It often didn't have half the stuff on the list and the food was mediocre at best. RFD is owned by the Brickskeller folks and has an excellent selection of beers on tap and decent food.

I thought the Brickskeller was awesome.  Great food, great service, and great beer.  The only thing that horked me off was that they had a huge list of beers, but only had about half of what I asked for actually in stock.

I've never had the Brickskeller experience and I hope to visit DC and do a min bar crawl before too long.

Salute
